About me
TLDR; likes to build things, and learn new stuff
Who is this guy?
My name's Michael and I am a Backend Software Engineer at Parkside Interactive in Graz. I got a Master's degree from FH Hagenberg in Software Engineering. I like to build software, which began with an iOS app, and no prior knowledge of coding Needless to say I made some questionable design decisions
Getting a degree in Software Engineering gave me a solid foundation in the world of professional software development.
Why do I like writing software?
When I was younger I couldn't really decide what to do for a living. So, to have at least somewhat of an education, I went to a school that specializes in tourism and the hospitality industry. I got to learn about things like wine-pairing, marketing and got some culinary experience. I could actually legally open a travel office and correctly arrange a platter of matching cheese
But how did I end up writing software? I always liked computers and was tinkering with them in my free time which made me the go-to computer service guy in my family and in the final year of school I got into web development. I watched countless tutorials on sites like Udemy and YouTube. My goal was to build an application that would help me practice my vocabulary on the go I didn't like to write them down on actual flashcards
While developing, I realized that writing software is really fun and basically everyone uses software. So there is a demand for people who know how to write good code. Being able to code also gives you this ability to build anything you can think of, like an intelligent trash can that tells you where to put your garbage.
What do I do besides writing software?
I also like things besides programming. A big one certainly is reading, and sometimes even more importantly owning books. My bookshelf is packed with a lot of unread books, and they seem to steadily increase in number.
My mother-tongue is German and foreign languages are another interest of mine. They were a big part of my education at school some of my classes were completely in English, which was fun. Additionally, I had three years of Spanish and a lot more French pero mi español es mejor que mi francés. I also looked into Italian, Swedish and some Dutch, but I cannot really hold a meaningful conversation in those last three, yet.
All in all you could say that I like to learn about things in general. I think that, if you look closely enough, nearly every topic has some interesting and relevant thing to learn about. Often times it's the seemingly simple things that are the most complex.
And in the end, I enjoy meeting friends and colleagues for a beer or some games, either in person or, due to a pandemic, online #BeerMeeting.
That's basically it. But if you got more questions, ask me on Twitter or LinkedIn or ping me via E-Mail.
